Dave Wilson (Aotearoa New Zealand/US) features in a quintet with some of Sydney's preeminent musicians for a special performance of his improvisation-driven compositions from his two most recent projects: Free, Free: Meditations on Liberation (premiered in 2025), and Ephemeral (Thelonious Records, 2023).

Free, Free draws from legacies of musical collectivity in an invitation to explore the expansive possibilities for what liberation might sound like. Ephemeral, described as “quite spiritually intense music” by The Guardian, explores the transience of human relationships with one another and the natural world through alternatively floating and driving improvisatory impulses of Wilson and the ensemble.

Dave Wilson is a saxophonist, clarinettist, composer, producer, and interdisciplinary scholar living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. His music bridges avant-garde and experimental music with various groove-oriented styles from the worlds of jazz, R&B, electronic music, and more. Before relocating to Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington in 2016, Dave grew up in the Chicago area, lived for a decade in Los Angeles, and spent several stints living in Skopje, Macedonia.

The inventive Danish/Australian trio Number Junky return with Composure, their third album, taking their new music on a national Australian tour. The trio of Kristian Borring (guitar), Zac Grafton (double bass) and Peter Evans (drums) have toured extensively across Australia in recent years.

Number Junky have become known for combining exciting rhythms and unusual time signatures with lyrical melodies, rich harmony and a strong sense of interplay. Led by internationally acclaimed guitarist Kristian Borring, the trio brings together three distinctive musicians whose performances balance intricate compositions with spontaneity and improvisation.

Following the critical success of their second album Birak, Composure presents a new collection of original music and modern arrangements of standards and classical hymns, continuing to develop the trio's distinctive sound. The album launch marks the beginning of another national tour, bringing Number Junky's dynamic live performances to audiences around Australia.
