David Chandler – in conversation, in person and live streamed
Description
Join us for an intimate conversation with building commissioner David Chandler – in person and live streamed
For our TFE Live event on 23 of this month (July), you get a chance to sit down with us in a funky little space we’ve found in Glebe and join us in conversation with Chandler himself.
What were the highs and lows of the job, what did he see as his biggest achievements and what remains to be tackled?
We’ll also ask him to unpack some of the industry’s DNA so that we can better understand it … and continue the job of rearranging it.
We’ve asked Lisa King, executive director of the Australian Institute of Architects NSW, to take part because she’s worked closely with Chandler and is happy to take on the role of industry foil.
However, we expect the audience, both in person and online, to chip in with their own questions and observations.
To moderate this event (which we hope won’t get too intense!), we’ve asked the inimitable Maria Atkinson, who’s already shared her inquisitorial skills at some of our previous events, to the delight of the audience. Atkinson, by the way, was just on Wednesday named a board member of the new NSW Net Zero Commission and she’s also a co-founder of the Green Building Council of Australia, among many other achievements.
As a way to kick off the conversation right now, here is a reminder of the biggest nuggets of change that Chandler has effected or had a big hand in:
- The ICirt star rating system for developers, builders, subcontractors, certifiers and consultants – giving them a rating between 1 and 5 stars.
- Project Remediate program to replace flammable cladding
- 400 inspectors transferred from Fair Trading to the Building Commission
- Residential Apartment Building Act to improve standards of delivery
