Event description

David Watson & Bill Nace duo:

David Watson is a guitarist, bagpiper and all-around music person. Originally from New Zealand, he has lived and worked in New York City since 1987. His work comes out of the practice of improvisation but includes composition and also concert curating and organizing.

He has worked intensively performing and recording with a wide range of extraordinary artists including Chris Abrahams, Robert Ashley, Frisner Augustin, Tony Buck, Che Chen, Frode Gjerstad, Shelley Hirsch, John King, Chris Mann, Christian Marclay, Sean Meehan, Ikue Mori, Bill Nace, Andrea Parkins, Lee Ranaldo, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, $75 Bill, amongst many others.

In New Zealand, he co-founded the experimental label Braille Records, as well as organizing national and international festivals there.

With his bagpipe work he has worked to create a new vocabulary and context for the instrument. For many years he worked closely with composer Phill Niblock, creating several pieces together. The trio Glacial is a long-standing collaboration with two highly acclaimed collaborators, Lee Ranaldo and Tony Buck.

He has made interdisciplinary work, notably with visual artist Cindy Bernard. He has made many scores for dance, notably for choreographer Moriah Evans. Also music for films, for Matthew Barney, Abigail Child, Martin Lucas, Laura Parnes, and Fred Barney Taylor.

Always drawn to drawn to the wild combinations of order and disorder inherent in processions and parades, he has created new experimental works for this form including for two marching pipe-bands in Hobart, Australia, a musical game piece for brass performed in an empty storage facility in Los Angeles, and a sonic progress through the city of Wellington, N.Z.

Bill Nace has been active in the experimental and free-improv scene since the mid-00s. Maybe best known as one half of Body/Head, the majority of Bill’s album credits are collaborative, with players including Paul Flaherty, Thurston Moore, Chris Corsano and Steve Baczkowski, many of which have seen release on his own Open Mouth label. Bill has two solo LPs on Drag City.

mb + mp:

mb + mp is a Philly-based ambient experimental guitar & modular synth duo of Mary Beth Ray & Manna Pourrezaei. Their generative  soundscapes process the Doom & Gloom of our (re)sounding times  through the union of guitar & synthesizers.

Bloody Stoma:

In search of the eternal frequency. An exploration in the liberation of sound. Jeremiad dirges for mid apocalyptic times. Much of this music was recorded in the ICU while I was caring for my daughter.
