David White Trio, with Aaron Germain and Brian Fishler – CD Release!

This is genre-defying music, featuring David White, Aaron Germain, and Brian Fishler.

With elements of swing, dense chordal arrangements, and improvisation over complex chord changes, its roots are distinctly jazz. Add in Latin and rock grooves blended seamlessly into an electric guitar vibe and you will hear traces of John Scofield's best work, early Pat Metheny, or closer, the wonderful mid-1980s band Bass Desires. But since very little of this music is in 4/4, the sum proves greater than these parts, yielding a strange, fresh, edgy but beguiling synthesis unlike anything else today.

Beyond jazz guitar freaks, this music will appeal to listeners into genre blending: Weather Report, Return to Forever, Snarky Puppy, Hiromi, Esperanza Spalding. It also will speak to adventurous audiophiles who aren’t hardcore jazz heads but love boundary-pushing a la Radiohead, Tigran Hamasyan, or Jacob Collier. In other words, those who cross genres while preserving artistic depth.

A reviewer once characterized David's music as "occupying a distinct corner of the jazz universe." His 2025 trio continues to prove this reviewer right, showing us what jazz at its best can be: an art form always expanding its boundaries to take you to places you will not have been before.
