How can we disciple in today's world where we have an overload of content, over abundance of choices, and a prevalent consumeristic mindset?
CONTENT IS READILY AVAILABLE
We live in a world where knowledge is just a tap away. With the rise of AI and instant access to sermons from preachers worldwide, people no longer rely solely on their local church or pastor for spiritual guidance. But with this flood of content comes a problem—how do we know what's biblically sound and theologically grounded? What impact does this have on disciple-making today?
CHOICES ARE OVERLY ABUNDANT
With so many voices and perspectives, decision fatigue is real. Whether it’s within the church or in daily life, believers are bombarded with endless options. The person sitting next to you in church may not share the same theological persuasion, biblical convictions, and lifestyle as you. How then do we do discipleship within a terrain where people are exposed to diverse theological, doctrinal and biblical convictions and still remain aligned as a church?
CONSUMERISM IS HIGHLY ACCEPTED
We live in a consumer-driven world expecting good service and rewards, and that mindset has entered the Church. A positive personal experience delivered through the church service becomes the yardstick in which we determine the quality of a church. If it does not hit the mark, we simply move on to the next church. Church is no longer centred on Christ but on my experience. How do we shift back to true discipleship, with Christ at the centre, and not personal preference?
In this conference, we will explore these challenges head-on. How does the ancient path of discipleship fit into today’s world? What needs to change in our approach to spiritual formation? What do we need to unlearn, learn, and relearn to make disciple-making more effective in our culture?
