Go behind the scenes of a real impact investment transaction and explore the structure, documentation, roles, and impact considerations that shape how deals are built and what they actually look like in practice.
By the end of the session, participants will:
Describe the key components of an impact investment transaction
Identify the roles and responsibilities of funders, investees, and advisors in a deal
Summarise how structure, documentation, and impact considerations interact within a transaction
Clean Slate Clinic as a case study.
Clean Slate Clinic is the only organisation offering home-based alcohol detox fully via telehealth across Australia, enabling people to safely go through alcohol withdrawal within the comfort of their own home, supported by a specialist clinical team. Excessive alcohol use is widespread, with 1 in 4 people in Australia drinking at risky levels. Being able to access withdrawal within your own home helps to overcome barriers of cost, access as well as stigma and shame. An independent evaluation has shown the service to be highly adoptable, safe and effective, and service data to date indicates that relapse rates are significantly lower than comparable face-to-face programs at 6 months post completion.

Pia Clinton-Tarestad - Co-Founder & CEO at Clean Slate Clinic
Pia is the Chief Executive at Clean Slate Clinic. She is a health economist with over 20 years experience working in healthcare across public and private healthcare systems in the UK & Australia, in Operations, Commissioning and Strategic Advisory roles. She is passionate about tackling the interface between social justice and healthcare, and reducing unacceptable health inequities, with a particular focus on tearing down the barriers to accessing addiction treatment services.
Rachel Yang - Partner at Giant Leap
Rachel is a Partner at Giant Leap. Giant Leap invests in founders solving our most pressing global problems at scale across climate, health and people and has invested in over 35 companies to date. She was formerly on the Advisory Board for the Victorian Government’s Equity Investment Attraction Fund and the Chair of the Startup Network, a non-profit, grassroots organisation supporting founders through their startup journey. Her background is in management consulting and corporate finance, and she previously co-founded a non-profit organisation to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease. Rachel was the winner of Victoria’s Investor of the Year award for 2024.
