Event description

Join us for the final BCA Inform for 2022 on Tuesday, 06 December, to talk about the next stage of the campaign for Audio Description (AD) on television.

Audio Description (AD) gives verbal narration of important visual elements such as scenes, settings, actions, costumes and on-screen text, so that people who are blind or vision impaired have equal access to programming.

In a recent decision, the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities found Australia has breached the rights of people who are blind or vision impaired by failing to meet its obligations under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The UN Committee has called on the Australian Government to identify and remove any barriers to accessing free-to-air tv for people with disability.

At this session of BCA Inform we will discuss the UN decision, what we are already doing to engage with the government in response, and the next steps in our campaign.

If you have any questions, or would like more information, please feel free to contact us on events@bca.org.au or call 1800 033 660.
