December 7th 2024 Disabled Surfers Central Coast Umina Beach
Event description
The Central Coast branch of the Disabled Surfers Association returns to Umina Beach on Saturday 7th December with a 'smiles on dials' event to celebrate the International Day of People with Disability 2024.
The theme is: ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’.
All surfers and carers must pre-register as we will not accept surfer walk-ups on the day. Volunteers are requested to pre-register so we know how many we have (this dictates how many surfers we can accept). Volunteers will be accepted on the day.
NOTE: Sign in tents will be located on the grass area near the amenities block. Everyone is requested to gather in this area, not under the surf club balcony. We will have a shade tent and some chairs please BYO picnic chairs if you can. The drop off area will be located in the usual place, north of the surf club but please use the pathway near the carpark to move to the sign in area.
You can your own water bottle as there is a water fountain near sign in area. We will host a sausage sizzle BBQ and presentation at the end of this event.
We surf rain or shine and we need your help. Volunteering consists of helping surfers to and from the beach, assisting them in and out of the water including tandem board riding. We always need help with set up and clean up too.
Volunteers do not need to know how to surf, they just need to be willing to get wet and have some fun! If you surf or have water skills, it's a bonus. A rash shirt will be provided for use on the day and volunteers are encouraged to bring their own wetsuits (we do have some loan wetsuits).
COVID protocols will in place to create a safe environment for all attendees. Please do not attend if you are unwell and remember to cancel your ticket so it can be offered to someone on the waitlist.
