Background:

In today's rapidly changing world, effective decision-making under pressure is a critical skill for leaders, especially in disaster response and recovery operations. This training course is designed to equip staff with the necessary skills to make informed and timely decisions in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments.

Participants will delve into decision-making frameworks and strategies, drawing on concepts from Emergency Management Australia’s Crisis Appreciation and Strategic Planning tools, as well as other best practice programs. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical exercises, participants will explore decision-making in dynamic, high-stakes situations and apply these new skills to guided exercise scenarios.

Aim:
To equip LDCC Reserve staff with the skills necessary to support efficient and effective decision-making in the challenging environment of disasters.

  • Gain an understanding of the characteristics and challenges of volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous operating environments
  • Learn Best Practices - Explore decision-making frameworks and strategies
  • Develop Decision-Making Skills - Enhance your ability to make informed and timely decisions under pressure in dynamic and high-stakes situations.
  • Participate in guided exercise scenarios to apply new decision-making skills in realistic disaster response and recovery contexts
  • Prepare to take on leadership roles in disaster response or recovery operations, supporting efficient and effective decision-making.
