Event description

Ever heard of decolonising research methodologies? Curious about what these are and how you might do it in practice? You’re welcome to join others who are thinking the same at the Decolonising Research Methodologies workshop.

The Workshop will be hosted by Dr Bhiamie Williamson, a Euahlayi man and Senior Lecturer at Monash University. It will explore decolonial research as an idea and method, and identify how it can be implemented through innovative methodological practice.

By the end of the workshop you will:

  • Understand why decolonial research is necessary in modern research
  • Have explored the importance of positionality
  • Have learnt to apply decolonial methods in your own research and practice

This workshop is not limited to a field or discipline and is open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous academics, government research agencies, not-for-profit groups who conduct research and evaluation, and early career researchers.

The Workshop will consist of four sessions:

  1. Introduction to Decolonial Research Methods
  2. Embedding positionality in research practice
  3. Decolonising data
  4. Reflection and application

The event will include presentations, interactive small and large group sessions, and personal reflective exercises.

Workshop will be catered by Pawa Catering and followed by light refreshments from 5-6pm
