Event: Deep Dive Ballarat #2 | Fire on Country

General information

Travel instructions

If travelling by car, free on-street parking is available along Wendouree Parade and surrounding streets. Two accessible parking spaces are located on Wendouree Parade close to the hotel, and a nearby loading zone can be used for drop-off and pick-up. Public transport options are available in the surrounding Lake Wendouree area. We recommend checking the PTV journey planner before travelling for the most suitable service and current timetable.

Entry instructions

Enter the Lake View Hotel and let venue staff know that you are attending Deep Dive Ballarat. Signage will also be displayed to help direct attendees to the event. The Deep Dive Ballarat function space is located on the first floor and is currently accessible by stairs only. There is no lift or step-free access to the function room. The stairs are relatively narrow and steep, and attendees with limited mobility should take this into consideration when planning their visit. The hotel itself has step-free access to its ground-floor areas, with the Mill Street entrance recommended by the venue for easiest access.

After entry instructions

After entering the hotel, follow the Deep Dive Ballarat signage to the first-floor function space. Event signage will be placed along the route, and hotel or Deep Dive staff can provide directions if required. Once upstairs, head into the function room where a Deep Dive team member will welcome you and check your ticket. Seating is unallocated, so you are welcome to choose a suitable available seat. If you have particular seating or other access requirements, please contact Deep Dive Ballarat before the event and we will do our best to make appropriate arrangements.

Hazards

The primary accessibility hazard is access to the first-floor function room. The room is currently accessible by stairs only, with no lift or step-free alternative. The staircase is relatively narrow and steep and may present a significant barrier or hazard for people with mobility disabilities, balance difficulties, fatigue or other conditions affecting the use of stairs. The function room is not currently accessible to wheelchair users who cannot use stairs. As the event is held in a functioning hotel, attendees may also encounter periods of crowding, background noise and movement through shared areas of the venue. Deep Dive Ballarat will keep pathways within the function room clear wherever possible and can arrange suitable seating for attendees with specific access requirements. Attendees are encouraged to contact us before the event to discuss any adjustments we may be able to make.

Accessibility commitment

Deep Dive Ballarat is committed to making our events as welcoming and accessible as we can. Unfortunately, the function space at the Lake View Hotel is located on the first floor and is currently accessible only via stairs. There is no lift or step-free access to the room. We know this means the venue will not be accessible to everyone, and we're sorry that we can't currently offer a fully accessible space. The Lake View Hotel has advised us that a lift is planned as part of future accessibility works, but this is not yet available. If there is anything else we can do to make Deep Dive more accessible for you, please get in touch before the event. We're very happy to discuss seating, hearing or sensory needs, companion arrangements, or anything else that would make attending easier.
