Join us for a special panel to discuss the unique challenges faced by defence startups. 

Our panellists:

1. Christopher Butlin, Acting Director Assessment and Operations at Defence Innovation Hub

Established in 2016, the Defence Innovation Hub (the Hub) invests in innovative technologies at various stages of development that can enhance Defence capability and grow the Australian defence industry and innovation sector. Any Australian business, academic or research organisation (with an ABN or NZBN) can respond to the Hub’s open call for submission online through the Hub’s website. If the idea is of interest to Defence, the company may be offered an innovation contract that covers the development costs of the technology.

2. Daniel Pace, Co-Founder of Invicta Prospects Group

An Australian Veteran owned technology start-up specialising in the development and support of software solutions to better manage workforce capability.​ Leveraging over 20 years combined elite military experience, including service within Australia’s Special Operations Command, the IPG team has developed an Operational Intelligence Software that efficiently captures and mobilises data to support critical decision making across operational, administrative and business domains.​

3. Edmond Sorich, Director of Glia Diagnostics

A group of dedicated professionals working in collaboration with medical and scientific experts worldwide, using clinical trials to assist in the validation of biomarkers in combination with other modalities to definitively diagnose TBI with emphasis on mild TBI (mTBI)/concussion. With extensive experience in fields covering biomedicine, research, diagnostics and development, GLIA is well placed to make much needed, valuable discoveries in this area.

4. Tim Doyle, PhD, Associate Professor & Director of Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science at Macquarie University. 

Researcher in Biomechanics and Human Performance. While working with the Australian Defence Force he led a large research program to identify and develop Physical Employment Standards for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He investigated the injury risk factors of undertaking Selection courses. Currently working for Macquarie University pursuing research interests in physical preparation for sport, load carriage for military, and physical employment standards in the emergency services.
