DEI Outdoors Practitioner Certificate Course Fall 2024

Become a catalyst for change in outdoor organizations with the DEI Outdoors Practitioner Certification. Explore strategies for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to foster social justice, facilitate impactful discussions, and drive meaningful transformation. This six-week program gives participants the skills to drive systemic change in their organizations. By the end of this course, participants will be well-prepared to lead transformative journeys that make outdoor spaces more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming for all.

This is a 6-week course held from September 15th, 2024, to October 26th, 2024. There will be four weeks with live Zoom sessions and two weeks with asynchronous self-paced learning modules and office hours. Participants can attend sessions on Wednesday evenings (starting September 18th) or Friday mornings (beginning September 20th). Participants must choose which weekday session they plan to attend for the entire course. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis to accommodate your schedule. (i.e., if there is a week you cannot attend on Friday but can attend on Wednesday). Below are our scheduled sessions:

Wednesday Evenings: 7 pm to 9 pm ET/4 pm to 6 pm PT

• Week 3: Self-paced module with optional Office Hours
• Week 4: October 9th, 2024
• Week 5: Self-paced module with optional Office Hours
  
• Week 6: October 23rd, 2024

OR

Friday Mornings: 11 am to 1 pm ET/8 am to 10 am PT

• Week 1: September 20th, 2024
• Week 2: September 27th, 2024
• Week 3: Self-paced module with optional Office Hours
• Week 4: October 11th, 2024
• Week 5: Self-paced module with optional Office Hours
  
• Week 6: October 25th, 2024

The live sessions allow skill building, experiential learning, and live discussions with other participants. Participants are required to attend 3 out of 4 of these live sessions.

We offer a sliding scale to make our programming accessible to all income levels. We are unable to offer scholarships at this time, but we hope to do so later this year. Registration covers transaction fees, wages for instructors and the DEI Outdoors team, and software and administration fees. 

This course is valued at $650. Please choose this amount if you are using professional development funds or you are not paying out of your personal pocket (i.e., you are an organization paying for staff to attend).

We start our sliding scale at $325. You can choose any amount above $325. Below are our general guidelines:

$325-$450 - This level is for you if you are a student, unemployed, under-employed, single parent, or part of a historically marginalized community.
$450-$650 - This level sustains our staff and helps pay instructors at a level that supports their work. This level is recommended for folks with a stable income.
$650-$1,000 - This is the value of our course. 
$1000+ - This level helps offset the cost of other students.
