Event description

DEMENTIA MASTERCLASS 2025

The provision of quality dementia care has never been of greater importance as the population ages and our health and care systems are impacted. We should never forget the dramatic impact that dementia has on the person with the condition as well as those that provide care and support. The Innovations in Dementia Care Masterclass will be part of a series of intensive learning opportunities for those involved in dementia care and research, to assist those participating with the knowledge and insights into the best and most innovative approaches to care, particularly to help Australia to respond to the challenges outlined in the National Dementia Action Plan (https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/national-dementia-action-plan).

The Learning Objectives for the Masterclass on Innovations in Dementia Care are;

  • Familiarisation with goals and strategies of the National Dementia Action Plan
  • Develop skills in inclusive practices involving people with dementia and those that provide care
  • Understand principles for best practice in design for care environments for people with dementia
  • Understand impact of a diagnosis and new approaches to effective post-diagnostic care
  • Build knowledge in approaches and effectiveness of respite practices
  • Build capacity of the workforce to maximise quality of care and support for people with dementia

Target audience: The Masterclass will be relevant to people with dementia, their carers, support care workers, health professionals and managers involved in providing care and related services, policy makers and early-mid stage researchers seeking to wok with people with dementia in different settings.
