Deposit by Matt Hartley
Presented by UC Sheffield: Foundation Degree in Arts: Performance in Practice
In the heart of London, four friends share a tiny one-bedroom flat for a year, one couple on the sofa bed, the other in the bedroom, all in a desperate bid to save for a deposit and escape the rent trap. But as the walls close in and tensions rise, their dreams of security and solidarity begin to unravel.
Deposit by Matt Hartley is a razor-sharp, darkly funny drama that lays bare the realities of aspiration, friendship, and compromise in a housing market gone mad. With biting wit and brutal honesty, it asks: how far would you go for a place to call your own, and what are you prepared to lose along the way?
Smart, searing, and heartbreakingly relatable, Deposit is a must-see for anyone who's ever lived with flatmates, budgeted with a spreadsheet, or fought for space in a city that keeps pushing people out.
An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books
