Challenge yourself and the way you solve complex problems.

This two-day foundational course puts under the spotlight that preconceived ideas, assumptions and biases that are making it hard for you to find solutions to issues facing your business or are even stopping you from realising what the real problems are.

What will you gain?

You will learn about Design Thinking as a discipline and how to understand human needs, giving your business a competitive advantage because of your ability to evolve when facing problems or developing products. This will enable you to:

  • Learn how Design Thinking can lead you to rethink your assumptions about an organisational or product you are working on.
  • Understand how big complex or previously unsolveable problems can be tackled with confidence.
  • Learn techniques for cross functional team building and success.
  • Test out your new design thinking techniques in real time by tackling a real life or business issue to show how this method can be applied.
  • Feel the impact of testing, prototyping, empathy and feedback on a final idea and let go of polished perfection.
  • Learn what makes the biggest commercial impact when innovating on a product or organisation.
  • Consider the foundational conditions for innovation to thrive in teams and organisations and reflect on areas for change in your organisation.

Course structure

The course brings together a collection of hands-on methods that help solve the right problem by asking the right questions, while learning to understand human needs by connecting ourselves directly with those people affected.

You will challenge your assumptions through empathy, rapid testing, feedback and prototyping.

This course was previously one day but has been lengthened to allow for deeper course work on the organisational foundations needed for innovation. It runs from 9am to 4.30pm on the first day, and from 9am to 1pm on the second day.

Facilitator

Louisa Taylor, Professor of Practice, is an innovation specialist and commercial futurist.

Her main areas of focus are developing fundamentals for innovation to flourish in organisations and developing people-centric commercial practices while experimenting with bleeding-edge technology.

She has held senior executive and commercial roles in technology businesses, rapid growth start-ups and used design thinking to redesign established businesses. Louisa was involved in developing the all-of-government innovation for service delivery design and delivering problem solving innovation frameworks for local government working on environmental and compliance issues.

    This Workshop is $1500pp, including GST and Humanitix booking fees.
    Course fees include catering (all dietary requirements catered for), booking fees and on-site parking.
