Designers on Boards: DIA Online CPD
Event description
Why do we need designers on board. How do we get design/design professional voices on to boards/governments/committees, and what tools might we need as designers to gain those positions?
Design shapes every aspect of our daily lives, yet designers remain underrepresented in the boardrooms and committees that make critical decisions affecting our communities, businesses, and society. This one hour webinar brings together three exceptional leaders to explore why we urgently need design voices in governance and how design professionals can strategically position themselves for board appointments.
Claire Braund OAM, the pioneering co-founder of Women on Boards Australia and recent Order of Australia Medal recipient, will share her extensive experience in board governance and advocacy. Having researched gender quotas across international markets and served on numerous boards, Claire brings unique insights into breaking through traditional barriers and creating pathways for underrepresented voices.
Greg Ewing, Queensland State Manager at the Australian Institute of Company Directors, will provide practical guidance on board readiness, governance frameworks, and the essential skills and qualifications that make candidates compelling to nominating committees.
Facilitated by Vanessa Cullen, DIA NSW Councillor and experienced board member, this session will equip designers with actionable strategies, essential tools, and the confidence to pursue governance roles that can amplify design thinking at the highest levels of decision-making.
Key takeaways:
Understanding the unique value designers bring to governance
