Detox Your Home - Shepparton
Description
Toxic household chemicals, such as cleaning products, pool chemicals and pesticides can be safely disposed of for free at the Victorian Government's Detox Your Home events, in partnership with local councils. Collected items are recovered for reuse or safely disposed of.
With community safety in mind, Detox Your Home events are drive-through (no walk-ins) and contactless.
This service is for household chemicals only.
The following items are accepted:
Acids and alkalis
Aerosol cans (empty cans go in household recycling)
Anti-freeze, brake fluid, car body filler, car wax cleaners – ammonia based
Coolant
Detergents, disinfectants and drain cleaners
Fertiliser
Fire extinguishers (non-halon only)
Floor-care products and waxes
Fuels – petrol, diesel, kerosene, other
Glues – water-based and solvents
Herbicides and weed killers
Insect spray and pesticides
Nail polish and remover
Cosmetics
Oven cleaner
Thinners, turps and paint stripper
Pool chemicals
Rat poison
Solvents
Transmission fluid
Wood preservatives and finishes (oils and varnish)
For safety reasons, the following items require pre-approval before they can be accepted at an event
Heating oil (from old household heater oil tanks)
Heavy metals (including mercury thermostats, thermometers)
Helium gas cannisters
Propane gas cylinders (including Tradeflame)
For pre-approval, contact us on 1300 135 410 and provide the following information:
the amount (in litres or kg) or number of items,
the Detox Your Home event you plan to attend,
a clear photo of the item so our team can know what to expect.

Paint is not accepted at this event. Unwanted household paint can be disposed of at any Paintback drop off site.
If you can’t get to an event, here’s how to store unwanted household chemicals until you can safely dispose of them.
Any details you supply will be treated in accordance with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action’s Privacy Policy.
