Event description

The BMG is thrilled to add more experience to the SWMCF program with this unique and inspiring workshop.

The workshop blends storytelling, myth, and performance from theatre maker Asha Cornelia Cluer.

It is open to people of all ages. We recommend anyone under the age of 16 attends with an older family member. If you are interested in storytelling, myth and folklore, live performance, or are
even just a little curious about the arts, then this is for you!

Asha is a bilingual theatre maker with a focus on creating culturally diverse work. Her newest play "A Magical Guide to Fighting Facism", a piece of trilingual magical realism, is currently in development supported by the DLGSC. She has co-facilitated Ngalaka Daa 2023
for Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and WA Youth Theatre Company (dir. Bobbi Henry), performed in Noongar language (Whadjuk dialect) by a company of young performers. She was awarded the UWA Graduates Association Prize for her work in Linguistics during her undergraduate degree (BA Political Science). She trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the UK (MA Acting) and her acting career includes numerous West End and UK No. 1 Touring credits.

Later in the day, at the Festival, you can also see Asha perform songs from "A Magical Guide to Fighting Fascism", a multicultural show about three women using music, culture and mythology to survive. Set against the backdrop of 1970s Chile, 2000's Australia, and modern day Scotland, this show celebrates the immigrant experience and the resilience of women worldwide.
