Event description

Living Every Day Brave Summer Camp 2026

We are excited to welcome tamariki/children to summer camp.

Camp: Is a 4-day, 3-night immersive experience at a stunning beachside location filled with fun activities, personal development and learning. Camp blends adventure with education, helping children grow their confidence in managing diabetes, supported by inspiring Youth Leaders and a dedicated medical team from Starship Children’s Hospital. It's a chance to build friendships, challenge themselves, and enjoy a supportive community.

For tamariki/children: This is a special opportunity for youth with diabetes to make connections and friendships with others going through the same diabetes journey. Youth can get an insight, stepping away from 24/7 parental care, to build their confidence and personal responsibility around diabetes care, with support from peers, Youth Leaders and a medical team. Camp also helps to build a more positive outlook on the management of diabetes.

For parents/carers: Carers will benefit from respite from round-the-clock care, whilst your child is in a safe, supportive environment, learning and having fun!

Registration: Places are limited to 40 youth aged 9-13yrs living within the Auckland region (outside regions by request). Both type 1 and type 2 children are very welcome. Registration cut-off date is below. Registration does not automatically confirm camp selection. Starship nurses need the registrations to plan and approve which youth will benefit from attending camp, especially if numbers are exceeded. If unsuccessful, the initial camp fee will be refunded.

Fees: The cost of camp is highly subsidised through local fundraising, grants, and extra donations bringing the cost down to $480 for each camper. If eligible for Carer Support, $320 of this may be claimed back by families via the Ministry of Health. (Contact your diabetes team to organise a Carer Support Application Form if you do not have a current Carer Support Claim Form). Upon registration application the difference of $160 is due (ticket Part 1).

Please contact shantelle@diabetes.org.nz to discuss financial support or payment details in confidence.

We are very grateful to our local fundraisers. Their efforts have meant we are able to keep our ticket prices relatively affordable, however we acknowledge they may still be prohibitive for some.  If you are in the position to donate or sponsor a child to attend camp, that could not otherwise go, please note that donations can be made via the 'Donation' button on the ticketing page or contact shantelle@diabetes.org.nz . All donations will directly help this camp. THANK YOU!

Camp Info Session + Q&A: We are hosting an information session for parents/carers and children to discuss camp, how it runs, how diabetes is managed and answer any questions. Anyone can join, but it's particularly suited to first timers, or if parents and/or children are a little nervous or unsure about camp or being away from each other. A Starship Diabetes Nurse Specialist will be joining us for the session.

7 pm October 30th via Zoom – email Shantelle to join or click https://us06web.zoom.us/j/86317241608?pwd=ncbgXha0RFIeImY8akY64XSgYV1ctn.1
