Diabetes NZ Nelson Youth: Evening Walk at Bill Wilkes Reserve
Description
Join us for a relaxed evening walk at Bill Wilkes Reserve in Richmond as part of Diabetes Action Month 2026!
Everyone living with type 1 diabetes, along with their families, is warmly invited to come along. Whether you're newly diagnosed or have been living with type 1 for years, this is a chance to connect with others in the local type 1 community, enjoy some fresh air and contribute to our nationwide One Million Minutes of Movement challenge.
We'll meet from 7:00pm at the Hunter Ave entrance to Bill Wilkes Reserve, with time for a chat and catch up with one another before we set off.
At 7:30pm, we'll head off together for an easy walk around the reserve's approximately 1.5km loop, enjoying the open green spaces and adding our movement minutes to the nationwide total.
Friendly dogs are welcome too! You're more than welcome to bring your four-legged walking buddy along, provided they're friendly and remain on a lead for the duration of the event.
What to bring:
Comfortable walking shoes
Water bottle
Your usual diabetes supplies
A light jacket or extra layer depending on the weather
A lead and anything else your dog might need if they're joining us
Wet weather plan: In the event of rain, we'll postpone the walk to Wednesday 25 November at 7:00pm, meeting at the same location.
This is all about bringing our type 1 community together, getting moving and enjoying each other's company.
We'd love to see you and your family there! Come along for a walk, a chat and the chance to help us reach One Million Minutes of Movement together.
