Event description

The Abbotsford Convent presents Diametric Convergences , an interrogation of gesture, tactility and sound.

David Moran (Celloist) and Iran Sanadzadeh (Pressure Sensitive Floors) connect acoustic and electronic instruments, inviting audiences to examine the visual and the sonic with equal attention.

Over two days the lofty North Magdalen Laundry will be imbued with the mysterious sounds of The Floors and the direct physicality of the cello. The pair will showcase a musical program featuring a suite of their most recent works, composed and recorded in 2021 through the support by Arts SA.

Friday, July 8 - Doors open 7pm, program 7:30 - 8:15

Saturday July 9 - Doors open 1:30pm, program 2:00 - 2:45

Iran Sanadzadeh is a performer and composer. Her work explores the possible relationships between movement and sound using her set of pressure-sensitive floors, which she started by studying and expanding the pioneering work of Philippa Cullen and her instrument. She has a Ph.D. in finite element modelling for musical acoustics.

David Moran is a cellist, an alumni of the Australian National Academy of Music, with a long list of performance accolades including the Australian Youth Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy, Orchestra Victoria, and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Recent highlights include Opera Australia’s regional ‘Carmen’ tour in 2021, performances for 1:1 at the 2021 Adelaide Festival for which he received a 5-star review in Limelight.

Abbotsford Convent is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge their sovereignty and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
