Digital Pillow Forts: Creating and Exploring Digital Worlds
Description
Digital Pillow Forts: Creating and Exploring Digital Worlds
The digital spaces of games can be chaotic and sometimes scary, but they can also be amazing, cosy, safe spaces we can inhabit and relax in. Like building a pillow fort, creating digital worlds lets us invent spaces of our own — places to play and imagine. In these two workshops, we’ll explore the exciting breadth of different worlds and avatars, discover how games bring them to life, and create our own!
You’ll make your own digital avatar through drawing or sculpting – the weirder and more adventurous, the better! You’ll get to puppet and control your characters, then we’ll create amazing worlds for these avatars to explore and play in.
Workshop 1: Creating Avatars
Create your own characters using pen and pencil, then bring them to life by puppeteering them in virtual reality.
Workshop 2: Creating Worlds
Sculpting characters and building fantastical game worlds, fleshed out with participants’ own ideas and imaginations.
Exhibition and Talk (all welcome. Please RSVP)
We’ll showcase the work created during the workshops, alongside a short talk and game safari exploring different digital worlds. We’ll also provide a colour catalogue featuring participants’ work to accompany the exhibition.
Come to one workshop or both! All ages welcome, no experience needed – just bring your imagination! Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
