Digital Program: Making Sense of Artist Management
Event description
What is an artist manager? How do I become one? When and how do I get one on my team? MusicACT is delighted to announce that international management sensation Poppy Tohill will be joining us for the first Digital Program of October to discuss all things artist management.
Co-Manager of BENEE and Olive Records label executive Poppy Tohill has been dedicated to championing local, New Zealand artists and music since day one.Â
After launching her own music publication at the ripe age of twelve, and frequently writing for numerous others, she then went on to further develop her multi-media skills in radio and videography at 95bFm and Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studios.Â
Juggling high school with stints of working for various event management companies including Do It Records Management and Zeal West, it was Poppy’s friendship with musician Gin Wigmore that saw her touring the country at sixteen and sparked her interest in artist management and promotions.Â
From there, Poppy took on a role at CRS Management where she continues to forge her impressive path, namely co-managing Benee through her rise to fame and success, alongside other acts including Brooke Fraser, The Naked & Famous, Muroki, LAIIKA and more.Â
During her already storied seven-year history at CRS, Poppy has also gned vast promotion and event experience, from launching a bi-monthly all ages gig series, to working across both Auckland and Austin City Limits Music Festivals and the annual Outer Fields summer shows at Western Springs which have been home to acts such as Mumford and Sons and Fat Freddy’s Drop.Â
Now adding record label executive to her ever-growing list of job titles, superstar Benee enlisted Poppy’s help to launch and run their own record label, Olive Records, who have gone on to sign rising star, Muroki and indie pop darlings, There’s A Tuesday.  Â
Whilst still managing one publication of her own, Kicking Roses, a collective hub for creatives worldwide that seeks to encourage expression and foster discussion around arts, music and culture, Poppy continues to go above and beyond to spread her infectious passion for music as far and wide as possible. Â
