DIN - SRN Sandpit Workshop - Space
Description
The Defence Innovation Network (DIN) and NSW Space Research Network (SRN) invite researchers from member universities and industry partners to participate in the DIN–SRN Sandpit Workshop on Space.
The workshop will bring together expertise from across the two networks to explore and refine a Defence problem statement for an upcoming joint Strategic Investment Initiative (SII). The selected project will receive up to $500,000 in funding and run for 12–18 months.
Problem Context
The challenge focuses on developing resilient, autonomous on-orbit sensing capabilities for space domain awareness, missile warning and Earth observation/ISR applications. It explores how AI/ML and neuromorphic processing could improve the autonomous operation, resilience and effectiveness of space-based sensing systems using event-based and conventional electro-optical sensors.
Who Can Attend
The workshop is open to researchers from DIN and SRN member universities, as well as industry participants with relevant expertise who are interested in contributing to the SII.
The workshop will be held online. Meeting details will be provided to vetted attendees after registrations close.
Organisers reserve the right to decline registrations where there is no clear alignment with the challenge or relevant Defence research expertise.
Registration closes: 5:00 PM, 23 November 2026.
