Dino Diggers: A Palaeontology Adventure For Kids
Event description
Have you got a kid who is obsessed with rocks? It’s time to encourage this interest of the planet’s history with our sell-out workshop in the geological playground of Plenty Gorge Park, only 20mins from Melb CBD.
Here kids get the rare opportunity to learn about fossils and dinosaurs from a bonafide Palaeontologist! We guarantee you’ll leave having learned new and wonderful things about our planet!
Our Dino Diggers : Kid’s Palaeontology Adventure offers your kids (and you!) a chance to connect with the rocking geology of the area. Special and rare fossils will be brought on the day so kids can discover creatures long extinct and ask questions of our facilitator. While we will learn about the geological processes that make fossils, we will also get hands-on with the rocks, making discoveries ourselves. Children can create their own fossil-inspired craft & art piece to take home!
This is invaluable time, being outdoors as a family, and an experience most parents tell us they enjoy as much as the kids!
Plenty Gorge contains some little known rock formations – luckily we get to see and discover all 3 geological rock types, first hand, as well as collect some rare rocks textures generated from volcanic steam explosions in this location. Plus there are special metamorphic and gorgeous sedimentary layers to learn all about!
It’s a fun and, dare we say it, rare rocking day out, delving deep into geology surrounding us. Rocks really do tell stories if we know how to listen!
Our guide for the day, Diana, is a qualified geo-palaeontologist, whose knowledge takes kids millions of years into the past, exploring the mysteries of fossils, stones, and traces of creatures long gone.
This program is designed to nurture curiosity, encourage nature literacy and cultivate connections that foster an intelligent appreciation for our planet's rich history. It’s pretty unique.
Suitable for children 4 - 12 y/o. Our team are neurodiverse informed.
Parents are responsible for their children at all times and are encouraged to participate in the fun!
We encourage fostering “ALL WEATHER” children/humans. This school holiday program is an outdoor session so participants need to make sure to bring weather appropriate protection.
In the event of inclement weather the program will be shifted to an undercover location. Cancellation will only occur in the event of extreme weather warnings: fire, strong winds, storm or high temperatures.
