Dinosaur Discovery at Flat Rocks

A large number of the fossils found along the Bass Coast have been discovered at Flat Rocks, Inverloch.

On this tour you will see how water erodes and exposes fossils, new discoveries are continuing to be made along the Bass Coast.

Dinosaur hunters look for trace fossils including footprints, leaves, burrows, it is not only bones that become fossilised.

You never know what you may find at Flat Rocks!

Joining us you will see the Mary Anning fossil site, volcanic lava, fault lines from ancient earthquakes and petrified trees. 

You will be sure to find samples of petrified wood while hunting for dinosaur fossils.

About this event

This session is presented by an Education Officer from Bunurong Coast Education.

Meet at the Bunurong Environment Centre, 1 Ramsey Boulevard, Inverloch for an introduction to the activity, directions, and a safety briefing before departing to Flat Rocks, Inverloch - on the Cape Paterson Road, about 6 minutes drive.

Participants will need their own transport to and from Flat Rocks. Warm clothing will be needed in cooler weather and sun protection should be worn.

Please Note:

• All attendees must purchase a ticket, including adults supervising children and all children including infants.

• Tickets for children under 5yrs and infants are free.

• Groups may be up to 25 people.

FAQs

Is there a minimum age requirement?

This activity is suitable for school aged children, teenagers and adults.  Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a supervising adult who has a ticket.  (Please note age requirements are a guide only). Tickets are required for all children and infants attending.

What do I need to bring?

You will need sturdy shoes for walking on wet and slippery ground, appropriate clothing and protection for the weather, a hat, suncreen, water and your own transport from the Bunurong Environment Centre in Inverloch to the field site.

What if the weather is bad?

Our activities go ahead if it is drizzling.  However, if the weather conditions pose a threat to the safety of participants we will cancel and refund your ticket fee.  In this event, we will email you so please monitor your email if the weather is bad.

When do bookings close?

Bookings close an hour before the event.  However, if there are insufficient bookings, the session may be cancelled several days beforehand.  So best to book early to make sure it happens.

What is the refund policy?

If we haven't sold enough tickets to cover our costs 24 hours prior to the event we will cancel the activity, email you and refund your money.  We may also need to cancel this event if unforeseen circumstances mean our presenter is unable to come or the weather turns nasty.  If we cancel the event, we provide a full refund.  If you cancel your ticket, you will be entitled to a full refund provided you cancel at least 7 days before the event.
