Event description

This webinar is part of the Advocacy Sector Conversations forum series.

About this session

In August 2020 DARU hosted the Disability and Disaster Resilience Forum which explored priority issues in emergency management for people with disability and examined why responses are failing to be consistently inclusive in spite of the rights-based frameworks and policies that are in place.  One of the outcomes was to develop an Issues Paper that advocates could use as a tool to improve disaster preparedness, response and recovery for people with disability.

Associate Professor Michelle Villeneuve, who leads Australian research on Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction, took up this task and will present an overview of the consolidated issues and what actions need to be taken by individuals and community organisations,  and supported at all levels of government to ensure that disaster management is more responsive when the next disaster strikes.

Auslan interpreters and captioning service is available at this event.
