Disaster governance, collaboration and community organising: A gendered perspective
Event description
Research and personal experience show that gender plays a significant role in emergency management and disaster resilience.
Recent disasters in NSW's Northern Rivers regions have highlighted the contributions women make, and the barriers they face, from formal
governance arrangements to inter-agency collaboration to community self-organising.
Researchers Rebecca McNaught and Emma Pittaway both lived through these disasters as community members, volunteers, and researchers, and have subsequently examined the local response, relief and recovery efforts across the Northern Rivers region.
Join AWE, Rebecca McNaught and Emma Pittaway as they share the gender-related findings of their research and share their personal experiences of gender in disaster.
