Discipleship after Alpha - a Morning with Ger Jones

Plenty of churches run Alpha. Fewer are confident about what sits on either side of it.

What builds a church culture where people are actually inviting their friends in the first place? And when the course finishes, when someone has met Jesus, and something has genuinely shifted, what happens next?

That second gap is where a lot of churches quietly lose people. We're good at the invitation. We're less sure about week six, month four, year two.

Ger Jones planted Vintage Church in Santa Monica in 2011 with a small team. It's now a few thousand people across two locations, with churches seed-planted in Pasadena and Malibu. Vintage has become known for something rare: they reach people a long way from faith, and they form them into committed, thoughtful followers of Jesus. Alpha is central to how they do that, but it's one part of a much longer pathway.

In this morning workshop, Ger will open up that whole pathway at Vintage Church. What comes before Alpha and what comes after it. How to preach evangelistically in a secular age. How a church grows in evangelism and deep discipleship at the same time, rather than trading one off against the other. Not the theory, but what they actually run, what they've stopped doing, and what they've learned the hard way.

There'll be plenty of time for Q&A, so bring the questions you're wrestling with in your own context.
