Discover the History and Flora of Waverley Flora Park
Event description
Come and explore the history of Waverley Flora Reserve, a nature reserve with an interesting history. At different times, Waverley has been a stone quarry providing stone of extraordinary quality for buildings as far away as Auckland, New Zealand. In the early 20th century part of the park became a rifle range operated by the Bellerive Rifle Club, and an Avenue of Honour commemorating World War One (lost in the 1950s but since re-instated). To help us on our way we have Council’s natural history guru Phil Watson, and cultural history nerd Alan Townsend.
Requirements: good walking shoes and rain gear, a bottle of water
Difficulty level: This walk is on unpaved roads with some steep or rocky sections.
