Description

What does it mean to live well and to build a fair society without appeal to the supernatural? Join us for a series of lively conversations exploring 'A Secular Humanist Declaration', the landmark 1980 statement that set out a bold vision grounded in reason, free inquiry and human dignity. Across these sessions we'll work through its principles one by one—freedom of the individual, church/state separation, ethics built on empathy and reason, the value of science and skepticism and the case for moral education and human rights—and ask how well they hold up in our own troubled times. Whether you're a committed humanist, a curious skeptic or simply someone who enjoys engaging with others, there's plenty here to challenge, sharpen and inspire your thinking. Grab a drink, bring your questions and join the discussion.

We are running the sessions fortnightly on Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to your email address on registration. For this fifth session, we will walk through and discuss the three short sections titled ‘Reason’, ‘Science and Technology’ and ‘Evolution’. You can access the text of ‘A Secular Humanist Declaration’ at https://secularhumanism.org/a-secular-humanist-declaration/
