Disinformation and its threat to democracy
Communities need to own the narrative to ensure a strong democracy, this means understanding disinformation and what we can do to prevent its proliferation.
This zoom will explore what disinformation is and how it threatens our democracy. It will cover what to do and what not to do, providing practical advice and tools about how communities can defuse and combat disinformation, giving them a strategic advantage. There are effective ways to do this, but communities need to be prepared.
CIP’s Anyo Geddes will be in discussion with Zali Steggall OAM MP, Independent Member for Warringah, and Ed Coper, author of 'Facts and Other Lies', change making strategist and Populares Director.
We’ll also hear about Zali’s “Stop the Lies” Bill and why false political advertising is so corrosive to our democracy, elections and referenda. This is particularly relevant to the Voice referendum where we are already hearing so much disinformation.
Afterwards, we’ll continue the discussion in networking groups to share useful resources, tips and knowledge.
