Dismantling Hierarchy & Cultivating Freedom | 🍂 Autumn Work That Reconnects Study-Action Circle
Description
Featured Reading: The Ecology of Freedom — Murray Bookchin
Autumn invites us to reflect on what we must release to make space for more just and ecological ways of living. In our second Study–Action Circle of 2027, we explore Murray Bookchin's The Ecology of Freedom, guided by the principles of The Work That Reconnects.
Drawing on the philosophy of social ecology, we'll examine the connections between social hierarchy, domination and ecological destruction. Together, we'll reflect on how power operates within our institutions, communities and relationships, and explore what it might mean to move beyond systems organised around control and exploitation towards those grounded in freedom, cooperation and ecological wellbeing.
🗓 What to Expect from the Study–Action Circles
The Work That Reconnects (WTR) offers practical tools and reflective practices to help those working to transform our economic systems navigate complexity, build resilience and sustain collective action. By combining deep reflection, experiential exercises and group dialogue, WTR supports changemakers in facing ecological, social and economic crises with clarity, courage and connection—enhancing their ability to envision and co-create a more regenerative, equitable and wellbeing-centred economy.
As we move through the seasons in 2027, we will:
📚 Explore a selected text that offers new perspectives on personal, social and ecological transformation. Reading is optional, and selected excerpts will be recommended.
🌀 Gather for a LIVE online community circle to share reflections, deepen into experiential practices and strengthen our individual and collective resilience.
🌱 Co-create a space where personal growth and systems change are nourished together as we work to build the New Economy movement.
Who It's For
People who care deeply about transformation—policy thinkers, community organisers, educators, researchers, practitioners, cooperative builders, activists and transition leaders.
Join us as we explore how dismantling systems of domination can open new possibilities for ecological freedom, collective empowerment and a more democratic economy.
