SATURDAY LEAD AUDITIONS - SHYAC Disney's The Little Mermaid
Description
Directed and choreographed by long time SHYACian Monique Barrios, and introducing Co-Director, Lucy Motram and Vocal Coach, Lexie Norman. Alongside a team of regular SHYAC faces making up the rest of the Production Team, SHYAC's production of Disney's The Little Mermaid is going to be an adventure filled with music, magic, mischief, mermaids, underwater adventures and plenty of SHYAC sparkle!
For our production of The Little Mermaid, we are looking for 60 youths aged 8 - 18* for an ALL AGES cast for the full two act show. No prior experience required.
SHYAC auditions are designed to be welcoming and supportive. We are looking for enthusiasm, storytelling and potential, not perfection.
Because this is a large, full two act show, we are running audition weekend a little differently to previous years.
Ensembles - Everyone wishing to be part of the cast must attend one session on our Ensemble audition day. It’s a chance for us to see how you work as part of an ensemble, as well as your singing, movement and performance skills. Please book a 45 minute group ensemble audition session for Sunday December 6th. Detailed info for what to expect and prepare for will be emailed to you after registration. If you would like to audition for a lead role, please ALSO book a one on one 15 minute slot on Saturday December 5th (info below).
For this production we have 3 exciting ensemble groups
Junior Ensemble | 8-12
Be part of the magic of a big production with a more flexible commitment! Our Junior Ensemble is perfect for performers who want to be involved, have fun and experience the excitement of performing, while balancing busy schedules.
Performers will take on 2-3 ensemble roles throughout the show and be part of bringing the production to life. There will be a smaller time commitment with this Ensemble, with the understanding they are in a few special moments of the production.
Youth Ensemble | Ages 13–18
Be part of the magic of a big production as a Princess, Maid, Sailor, Chef or Townsperson! Our Youth Ensemble is a great opportunity for performers to take on various ensemble roles across the shows, build performance experience and have fun as part of a bigger cast.
Company Ensemble | Ages 10–18
For dancers with at least 2 years of dance training. This is a multi-role ensemble opportunity, with dancers taking on various ensemble roles throughout the production. Strong technical dance ability, commitment, and teamwork are essential.
Bonus: Tap training is a plus.
Leads - If you would like to audition for lead roles, please book a 15 minute one on one audition slot for Saturday December 5th. Detailed info for what to prepare will be emailed to you after registration.
Callbacks - both the leads and ensembles may require callbacks, and these will be run on Sunday the 6th in the afternoon.
Dates for our rehearsals, bump in and showtime are listed on our website. Please check for any major clashes for your family,
We understand that family, school, and other activities are important, however, consistent attendance is essential to ensure everyone can learn, grow, and help make this production the best it can be. Missed rehearsals impact the entire cast when it comes to blocking, harmonies and choreography formations.
Lead roles in particular require a high commitment. If there are two or more rehearsals missed, the role may need to be re cast.
Registering for auditions is free. Upon casting, a current SHYAC membership will be needed as well as a production fee of $350. This fee goes towards a cast shirt, rehearsal space, sets, costumes, props, insurance and venue hire. If this production fee would prevent you from auditioning please reach out to the SHYAC committee.
*Ages are from turning 8 in 2027 to finishing Year 12 in 2027.
We are holding an Info Afternoon at Pointe Dynamic Arts in Moss Vale on Friday December 4th from 6:30-7:30pm if you would like to meet the team or have help registering for your audition slot over the weekend. This info session is for parents as well as kids and teens. It is a chance to hear from the creative team themselves, as well as ask any questions you may have.
This info session is not compulsory to audition.
