In this writing and performance workshop, Andrew Cox will share insights from the last 10 years of performing, researching and passionately engaging with slam poetry.
No previous writing or performance experience required.
Seasoned writers and performers will be challenged.
All welcome!
Participants will be guided in:
- Defining your unique message for the world, your truth to share
- Writing for the stage, you'll reduce your message down to its core.
- Introduce performance techniques to bring your message to life, a call to action.
To get the most out of the experience, active participation by sharing your work will be encouraged.
Andrew Cox:
Andrew Cox is a Filipino/Australian, who lives and works on Ngunnawal & Ngambri Country.
He leads the Canberra Poetry Slam, one of Australia's largest regular performance poetry programs.
Andrew's work has been shortlisted for writing prizes, notably for Innovation in Spoken Word, and featured internationally for the 2023 Singapore Writers Festival.
As a performer Andrew has been on stages in every state and territory of Australia.
His writing has been published in multiple anthologies, most recently Admissions (Upswell publishing) and commissioned by the likes of Red Room Poetry.
Andrew is currently employed by the National Gallery of Australia as an Artist Educator, facilitating and developing learning programs for all ages and learners from diverse experiences.
His expertise has been sought by national institutions, literary organisations, schools and universities locally and globally.
Andrews work focuses on the disciplines of slam and spoken word, and has found national recognition, named as an emerging voice in Australian poetry.
