DESCRIPTION
RDA Sydney and EAROPH Australia have the pleasure to convene this webinar that will explore opportunities for housing innovation. We will hear from thought leaders in the public sector, and private sector providers pursuing a range of innovative housing solutions. There will be an opportunity for exchange with EAROPH’s interstate and international members spanning the Asian region.
Australia’s major cities, led by places like Sydney and Melbourne, are facing an intensifying housing crisis with multiple causes, which are reinforced but the strength of housing as a wealth asset. With home values significantly exceeding $500k in all capitals except Darwin, and the median income only $54,890 (ABS data 2020-2021), it is clear that home ownership for those not on the 'property ladder' already is further away than ever.
While the Australian Government, through the National Housing Accord, and the state governments are looking to accelerate housing delivery and increase density, are the conventional development models sufficient? or are a greater range and diversity of solutions required?
The demographics of what was considered a typical household has changed significantly over the last decades, and home ownership has been decreasing among the younger generations.
How can we increase housing diversity and provide genuinely affordable homes? How do we achieve impact in the short- and medium-term, not just the longer-term? And how do we tackle rental affordability?
Importantly, how can you as a policy maker, housing providers, designer and/or developers learn from experiences in other cities and states and overseas?
WHY JOIN?
This webinar is a great opportunity to learn about the new models and approaches from leaders in the housing policy and delivery space as we all confront the ever growing housing crisis. You will hear directly from leading public bodies involved in housing delivery in Australia, such as Homes NSW, Homes Victoria, Landcom, etc. and the innovative private sector responses from trailblazers such as Urbanly, Assemble, invida, Agency for Design Strategy, includesign and Origen Architects.
It is also an opportunity to pose the difficult questions and have a conversation with fellow colleagues working to make our housing more affordable and a better fit our evolving community's needs.
