Diversity Fest Lunch & Learn: Class Inclusion

Online Event
Add to calendar

Wed, 23 Sep, 10pm - 11pm EDT

Description

Join us for a Lunch & Learn hosted by UNSW's Inclusive Communities team about class inclusion.

Although often missing from conversations about diversity and inclusion, social class plays an important role in shaping people's experiences at work. Class-based assumptions and bias can influence recruitment, career development and access to opportunities, creating a "class ceiling" that can limit career progression for people from class marginalised backgrounds.

This lunch & learn will be held as a discussion with members of the UNSW community. We will discuss how classism and class-based assumptions can shape experiences in both the workplace and higher education, reflecting on the barriers these biases create and why class inclusion matters.

We will also share some insights from the Diversity Council of Australia's recent Class Inclusion at Work research, which highlights the benefits of class-diverse and inclusive workplaces and offers practical ways organisations can recognise and address classism and bias.
