Event description

What does violence reveal about us — as individuals and society?

Violence in all forms shakes communities, leaving grief, fear, and unanswered questions in its wake. But beyond the headlines and statistics, violence also reveals something deeper — about who we are, the stories we carry, and the fractures in society.

In this Community Dialogue, we’ll explore the roots of violence — fear, division, inequality, identity — and consider how these forces shape our lives and communities. Rather than debating policies or pointing fingers, we’ll turn toward the underlying currents that give rise to harm, asking: What does violence unveil about us? And what possibilities for healing, connection, and safety emerge when we face it together?

Join us for an evening of reflection, inquiry, and dialogue as we seek understanding beyond the act of violence itself, opening space for courage, compassion, and new ways forward.

What we’ll do

  • Cultivate some tools on how we perceive and communicate
Practical approaches to cultivate calm, even in the midst of a dysfunctional situation.

  • Listen and share

Through guided dialogue that invites many perspectives, sharing personal experiences and providing a space to be heard.

  • Imagine together

What safer, more caring communities could look like.

  • Turn ideas into action.
A short “Action Marketplace” to match offers/needs and pick one next step.

Who should come

Community members, parents, educators, faith leaders, students, organizers, and anyone concerned about the impact of violence in our society will find a place here. Whether you’ve experienced violence firsthand, work to prevent it, or are simply curious to understand more deeply, your voice matters in this conversation.

Our approach (safety & respect)

This is not a debate. It’s a space for listening, questioning, and discovery. We use dialogue to uncover complexity, honor lived experience, and make room for many perspectives. Our approach emphasizes curiosity over certainty, compassion over blame, and connection over division. Together, we’ll open the conversation with courage and humility, unveiling what violence shows us — and what healing might look like.
