A one day workshop on how to DIY you own tiling projects.
Introduction to Tiling
· Overview of Tiling Projects: Learn about different types of tiling projects (kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, flooring).
· Tile Materials: Introduction to various tile types (ceramic, porcelain, mosaic) and their uses.
· Tools of the Trade: Overview of essential tiling tools and their functions (trowels, tile cutters, levels, spacers, etc.).
Surface Preparation
· Preparing the Substrate: How to properly clean, level, and prepare walls or floors for tiling.
· Surface Types: Best practices for tiling over different surfaces (drywall, cement board, plywood, concrete).
· Waterproofing and Backer Boards: When and why to use waterproofing agents and backer boards, especially in wet areas like bathrooms and kitchens.
Activity: Participants will practice preparing a small area or mock-up surface, cleaning, leveling, and applying a primer if necessary.
Laying the Tiles
· Tile Layout: How to measure and plan a tile layout, including starting from the center or using reference lines to ensure straight lines and balanced design.

Activity: Participants will lay a row of tiles on a mock-up board or small section of wall/floor, applying adhesive, placing tiles, and cutting tiles as needed.
Grouting and Finishing Touches
· Grouting Basics: How to choose the right grout (sand or unsanded) and how to mix it to the proper consistency.
· Applying Grout: Techniques for applying grout evenly with a rubber float, ensuring all gaps are filled.
· Cleaning the Tiles: How to clean excess grout from the tile surface using a damp sponge, and the importance of cleaning the grout haze before it dries.
· Sealing the Grout: When and how to apply a grout sealer to protect against moisture and staining.
Activity: Participants will grout the tiles they laid earlier, remove excess grout, and clean the surface. If applicable, they will apply a grout sealer.
