Become a wetland detective with knowledge of DNA barcoding
Do you love forensics? Would you like to be part of this fun hands REAL DNA lab? Put on the lab coat and gloves like a REAL scientist and take a deep dive into the world of DNA in this fun activity designed for curious and intelligent minds.
Using the tools used by scientists, uncover which weed is the worst offender invading our beautiful wetlands around Bibra Lake using a cool process called DNA barcoding! And identify various plant species—from your own backyard and garden.

About the Presenter
WiTWA Inspiring Role Model Award winner 2019, Pauline is an experienced, passionate science educator with a unique skill set and ability in the area of biotechnology and biomedical science education.
Pauline has recently started a new venture, her own start-up education focused social enterprise. BioBarcode Australia is a biotechnology education consultancy aiming to provide Australian schools with innovative, authentic and inter-disciplinary projects. These projects will involve all age groups in real-world projects that contribute to the development of ‘future-ready’ mindsets and skills, while also fostering environmental awareness and stewardship. She began researching the latest pedagogical approaches to Australian STEM-focused education in addition to identifying the latest global developments in biotechnology. Combining the two, Pauline’s business embraces the provision of problem/project-based learning pedagogy with a hands-on, global biotechnology project - DNA barcoding.
