'Do it Ourselves' Presented By Alor Studio: Panel Discussion
Event description
As part of Alor’s commitment to collaborating with and celebrating local design talent, Do It Ourselves marks the studio’s first design challenge—bringing together a diverse group of designers from across Australia and New Zealand.
The exhibition encourages creative thinking on a budget, asking designers—and the public—to craft something meaningful using only basic hand tools and materials found at local hardware stores.
The four projects that will be featured are the outcomes from Bel Williams, Bolaji Teniol, Calum Hurley, and Jordan Fleming. Each piece offers perspective into how these designers approached this challenge, while reflecting their unique aesthetic and technical skills.
Responding to the Melbourne Design Week theme, "Design The World You Want", this exhibition invites selected designers to create a seating piece that encourages the public to get hands-on—whether by recreating the designs themselves or, even better, using them as a launchpad to craft something entirely original. The goal is to spark creativity and inspire a deeper engagement with the design and making process.
Designer Talk
Hosted by Alor studio and moderated by James Walsh, each designer will be discussing how their piece came to be and what challenges they faced throughout the process.
