Do we need to rethink forgiveness?
Event description
Our speaker this month will be David McDougall. David is an Anglican Priest, the Archdeacon for Mission in the Diocese of the Murray, Provincial of the Society of The Sacred Mission and the Co-ordinator of Adventure Connect Inc, a Christian Charity that works to provide meaningful recreation to disadvantaged young people.
David’s academic work includes post-graduate work on the study of trauma, resentment and forgiveness.
The practice of forgiveness is a central and distinguishing element of Jesus’ teaching and the Church’s practice. Practically, real questions arise. As Bishop Butler said, especially ‘upon serious injury’ What do we do when someone really hurts us. What is possible, what is realistic, what is healthy for the Church to teach traumatised human beings? These and other questions about the art of forgiveness open up on a discussion about the heart of Christian practice.
