Event description

For an evening of films, food, and gathering, Dogmilk, QAMERAD, and Nongkrong Festival co-present CONG/SPIRACY.

Building on Dogmilk’s Degustations format, Bali-based queer collective QAMERAD curated a night of film, with Nongkrong Festival hosting conversations and food.

CONG/SPIRACY reclaims the weaponised term cong—Indonesia’s slur for queer bodies—and twists it into a rallying cry, a spell, a whisper passed between co-conspirators of the otherwise. Curated by QAMERAD, this program gathers films that dare to fabulate, to glitch, to haunt, and to mock the normative scripts that bind us. These are not polite films. They do not seek approval. Instead, they scheme in broad daylight—against heteropatriarchy, against state moralism, against the suffocating logic of respectability.

In the eyes of the state, queers are always already conspiring: spreading propaganda, corrupting youth, refusing assigned roles. But in the hands of these filmmakers, conspiracy becomes a site of collective creativity and care. Through lipstick-stained rituals, psychedelic karaoke battles, online weddings, and drag séances, these films build a shared language of subversion—one forged through camp, folklore, and phantasm.

To be cong is not just to be named deviant—it is to become part of a lineage of world-builders who refuse the timeline imposed on them. CONG/SPIRACY is not a plea for inclusion. It is an invitation to join the scheme. To move with myth. To speak in code. To dream with others in the dark.
