Doing What's Right: Making Ethical Decisions in Challenging Times

In the past decade, early childhood educators have navigated a myriad of complex challenges—from the far-reaching impacts of COVID-19 to managing the diverse needs of children and families, and the ongoing struggle to find and retain exceptional staff. Adding to these pressures, heightened scrutiny and expectations around children's safety are making the front page of the papers.

These compounding challenges prompt educators and leaders to reflect deeply on our professional identities and practices. We need dedicated time for thoughtful reflection and space to consider ethical decision-making at every level.

Join us for an interactive session designed to explore practical approaches to everyday ethical challenges and dilemmas in early childhood settings. We will begin by reflecting on our roles as professionals and then focus on making practice decisions that address the significant questions we face. Through collaborative discussions, we will share our most pressing challenges—whether it's selecting quality resources, supporting staff motivation, engaging respectfully with families, or making daily curriculum decisions.

Utilising an ethical decision-making cycle aligned with the ECA Code of Ethics, the Early Years Learning Framework, and National Standards, we will work together to identify appropriate actions that support children, families, educators, and communities. This workshop offers a valuable opportunity to enhance your ethical decision-making skills and develop practical solutions to real-world challenges.
