Event description

The Goulburn Club and Great Southern Nights presents Don Hopkins, Chris O'Connor and guests in concert.

Oozing the barrelhouse, good-time fun of a blues party night, with the emphasis on New Orleans piano styles, Don Hopkins will get you singing along, dancing or just having a good time to his music of blues, boogies, spirituals, rags & ballads.

Don will be joined by Chris O'Connor playing vintage blues as if they were written yesterday. His own songs sit alongside those from 1920s masters such as Tommy Johnson, Memphis Minnie, Charlie Patton and Lemon Jefferson. He showcases blues styles ranging from sparkling ragtime to driving bottleneck blues.

Don & Chris will be joined by Damian Coen who has a reputation for his lyrical old time harmonica playing and insightful songwriting. In the 1980s Damian founded the jugband “The  Mudsteppers”. More recently Damian has released two critically acclaimed albums of original material with his band “The Fathers of Necessity”.

Expect a diverse and entertaining evening with the three performers playing everything from ragtime and jugband songs to rollicking train songs, New Orleans boogies and lonesome bottleneck blues.

Local performers Ghostgum and Isy Cappo will provide a warm up concert from 6pm in the Courtyard garden before the main show at beginning at 8pm.

This show is open to all ages (under 18's need to be with a responsible adult)
