Don Ross & Julie Malía

A special concert added to Omni's 46th season. Canadian fingerstyle legend Don Ross, the first two-time winner of the US National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, joins German guitarist, singer and songwriter Julie Malía for one evening at St. Mark's Lutheran Church: solo sets and duets in a single program. Since 2023 the two have played more than a hundred concerts together across Europe and North America.

Don Ross was born in Montreal to a Mi'kmaw mother and a Scottish father. He won the US National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 1988 and again in 1996, the first player ever to take it twice, and has since released nineteen solo albums on labels from Sony/Columbia to CandyRat, with collaborations alongside Andy McKee, Calum Graham and Dan Crary. He holds a Master's degree in orchestration, scores film, television and video games, and received the Canada Council for the Arts' Walter Carsen Prize for excellence in the performing arts in 2021.

Julie Malía, from Swabia in southern Germany, is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who teaches at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden. One of the most sought-after soloists on the European acoustic scene, she moves between her own songs, classical virtuosity and modern fingerstyle. Her album Seagull was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize in 2024.
