Raffles include Gordon Hookey artworks, books and more!

Whether or not you can attend the Tuesday 27th event in person, you can still donate and buy raffle tickets until Sunday 1 November 11.55pm and be in the running for the raffle prizes. See pics below.

Thanks to filmmaker Dr Deb Beattie, we have a set of three 'Kangaroo Point' etchings by Gordon Hookey to raffle. One for each of 3 raffles. Thanks also to artist Gordon Hookey for permission.

A member of the Magandjin Brisbane proppaNOW artist collective, Gordon is an artist activist whose work has long explored the history of Aboriginal protest. Gordon’s kangaroos have attitude and are symbols of Indigenous resistance. Some will soon keep watch in the new Albert St, Brisbane, Cross River Rail station.

Photos of World Expo sites including the Seattle Space Needle and the Eiffel Tower. Dr Minner's work includes the paper "The Art of Resisting Mega-Event Amnesia".

Book: Lost Utopias. Photographs of World Expo sites inc Seattle Space Needle and Eiffel Tower

Hardcover book Lost Utopias : Photographs by Jade Doskow 2016 co authored by Doskow, Jade; Pare, Richard; and event speaker Jenni Minner PHD Since 2007, American photographer Jade Doskow has been documenting the remains of World’s Fair sites, once iconic global attractions that have often been repurposed for less noble aspirations or neglected and fallen into decay. Lost Utopias brings together the substantial body of work that Doskow has completed over the past decade, including iconic monuments such as the Seattle Space Needle, the Eiffel Tower, Brussels’ Palais des Expositions and New York’s Unisphere. Doskow’s large-scale colour photographs poignantly illustrate the utopian architecture and art that has surrounded the World’s Fairs, across both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Presented in a handsome, large-scale hardback book, Doskow’s work carries a unique sense of both grandeur and dreaminess, whilst also reflecting upon the often temporary purposes that these structures once held.
