Sketching the Doric Order, hosted by the New Vitruvians—the emerging professionals of ICAA-NE
Event description
Join us for a hands-on sketching workshop exploring the timeless elegance of the Doric order, the most foundational of the classical architectural styles. Designed for emerging professionals and design enthusiasts alike, this session will blend history, proportion, and drawing technique in a relaxed, inspiring setting.
Led by John Tittmann of ART Architects, the workshop will take place at the historic Harvard Musical Association in Boston—a fitting venue to study classical form and proportion. Participants will gain an understanding of the Doric column’s key elements—from fluted shafts to austere capitals—through guided exercises and live sketching.
Whether you’re brushing up on classical fundamentals or discovering them for the first time, this workshop will sharpen your eye, hand, and historical awareness.
Lunch will be provided following the course, offering time to connect and continue the conversation with fellow participants.
All materials provided. No formal drawing experience required—just bring your curiosity and creativity.
COURSE PREREQUISITES: None required. Course content is suitable for those with limited exposure to drawing in situ or for the more seasoned artist.
