Double Feature: Stories That Create Space

Double Feature is back by popular demand and this time, the theme is Stories That Create Space. This is a community celebration of creativity, connection, and storytelling. #LearningwithStories

Ako Ōtautahi Learning City Christchurch is partnering with University of Canterbury's CHCH101 Course, Digital Storytellers and Graduate Women Canterbury to spotlight the incredible talent within two storytelling collectives.

This is more than a screening - it’s an invitation to experience the power of storytelling to connect us, spark empathy, and reveal the many ways our communities make meaning through film.

Across the evening short films will be showcased including:

• Documenting Spaces for Youth by UC CHCH101 students

• Stories into Futures participant stories

The programme unfolds in two screening sessions, interwoven with a panel kōrero focused on exploring Stories That Create Space: Storytelling, Belonging and Inclusion:

1. What does it take to create places, spaces and opportunities where people feel they belong, can participate, and can see a future for themselves?

2. What role does community storytelling play in this?

Come along for an evening of short-form cinema, community connection, and the celebration of Stories That Create Space - where storytelling becomes a shared act of creativity and change.

About the two collectives:

University of Canterbury CHCH101 actively partners with communities to work collaboratively to affect meaningful change. This time, the students utilised Re:Vision Youth Relevant Design Principles to document the spaces around Christchurch that are youth friendly.

Stories into Futures is a programme centring women from under-represented communities in Canterbury, designed to use storytelling as a practical bridge between education and employment. Brought to you by Ako Ōtautahi Learning City Christchurch in partnership with Graduate Women Canterbury and Digital Storytellers, with support from UC Community Engagement Hub - University of Canterbury, Works, RWA People LTD and Plains Media.
